Local Organisations

Local Organisations in East Barnet Village

There are many local organisations, often run solely by volunteers, who work to improve the quality of life in the East Barnet area. Some of these are:

  • East Barnet Parish Residents Association which holds open meetings four times a year, are welcomes new members. Just come along to its AGM at 8pm on 18th July at St Mary's Parish Hall, Church Hill Road (along from Capel Road, facing the park). Activities range from raising £10,000 for the children's playground in Oak Hill Park to the more modest recent project to convert one of the tennis courts into a basketball court during the winter. Subscription to EBPRA is only £1.50 a year and 4 newsletters are distributed annually. More details from (020) 8368 1402

  • The Friends of Oak Hill Park is one of a network of support organisations arranged by the London Borough of Barnet to work and consult with residents on problems and improvements to their local park. Recent achievements have included the reinstatement of a park keeper. More details from (020) 8368 0501.

  • The Friends of East Barnet Village has been formed recently to concentrate on improving facilities in The Village itself, following a lively and well attended open meeting in the Methodist Church. More details from 07960 880588 or e-mail EastBarnetVillage@yahoo.co.uk

  • Christmas lights are a fairly recent innovation, arranged by the traders in conjunction with the Borough Council. More help will be appreciated in co-ordinating the operation in December and January. In East Barnet Village contact The Lighting and Gift Centre, (020) 8440 6610.

  • St Mary's Parish Church contributes greatly to the area through the production and distribution of 2500 copies of its Parish Magazine free of charge. In the May edition an elderly resident, who grew up here and has now returned, comments on how convenient, friendly and pleasant the area is.

  • Friend In Need (FIN) runs the district's Day Centre for the elderly. FIN has many support services for residents and carers, young and old, and is housed in East Barnet Baptist Church.
