East Barnet Festival 2001
Out Of This World
The weekend that aliens descended on East Barnet
- And a good time was had by all.
|
North London's biggest annual community festival, the East Barnet event, drew together crowds of more than 15,000 humans and a small number of aliens, for a universally enjoyable weekend on Saturday July 7th and Sunday July 8th 2001.
- Held in the lush green surroundings of public open space Oak Hill Park, Church Hill Road, EN4, this free festival had all the key ingredients for a good time. Even serious rain held off. "Great", "brilliant", "really enjoyable" were a few of the comments heard being made by visitors as they made their way home.
Sponsored by East Barnet Village estate agents, Chas. R. Lowe Estates, with the active involvement of James Westrope and Michelle Boyle, the festival's chosen theme for 2001 was "Out of this World" - because of its associations with "2001 - a Space Odyssey". And there were many outer worldly experiences running through the mass of entertainment, participation, and good old neighbourly involvement, with a huge range of attractions and fun events for the whole family, including many specifically laid-on for children.

The two-day programme was studded with activities. It featured many sports - from tennis and cycling, to six-a-side football, gymnastics, and jujitsu - with nearly 30 clubs and other organisations represented. And there were martial arts displays by members of the London Oriental Arts Academy on both days.
